The increasing integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in business, commerce, and retail settings has simultaneously increased concerns related to the rights of consumers and raised questions as to what form or level of regulatory protections maybe be appropriate or feasible.
As the use of AI quickly evolves, it is important that regulations and standards of AI evolve with it.
The purpose of this hearing is to examine the impact of AI in marketing and advertising, consumer privacy and data protections, as well as consumer lending and financing, and examine the role government could play in the regulation of AI to ensure consumer safety and protection. The Committees would like to hear testimony on existing laws and regulations in New York State, other states, or new initiatives being discussed at the state and federal levels regarding the use of AI related to consumer safety and protections.
