    Mayor Adams hosted the Annual St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast Reception on March 17, 2023, and it was attended by various dignitaries, including Tánaiste Micheál Martin, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defense of Ireland. The Tánaiste acknowledged the positive contribution made by successive generations of Irish immigrants in New York and thanked the mayor for hosting the reception, which recognizes the interwoven history of New York and Ireland.

    The Tánaiste also talked about the upcoming 25th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement and how America’s support for peace on the island of Ireland was critical in reaching that agreement. He emphasized that the bipartisan support of the many friends of Ireland across all levels of government and from communities across the United States has been essential.

    Mayor Adams also took the stage and thanked all the leaders and dignitaries for being there. He mentioned that peace is a way to bring prosperity to everyone and that the Irish heritage teaches us to never do anything that’s going to embarrass the family name. He urged everyone to instill that spirit and energy again, reminding them that every action they take should be done with the understanding that they’re carrying the rich tradition and legacy of their family name.

    Overall, the St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast Reception was a celebration of Irish heritage and culture, as well as a reminder of the strong bond between New York and Ireland. The event brought together leaders and dignitaries from both countries, highlighting the importance of working together towards a common goal of peace and prosperity.

  • President Biden Approves New York Disaster Declaration

    Today, President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. declared that a major disaster exists in the State of New York and ordered Federal aid to supplement State and local recovery efforts in the areas affected by a severe winter storm and snowstorm from December 23 to December 28, 2022.

    The President’s action makes Federal funding available for Individual Assistance limited to Funeral Assistance under Other Needs Assistance for affected individuals in Erie and Niagara Counties.

    Federal funding is available to state and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe winter storm and snowstorm in the counties of Erie, Genesee, Niagara, St. Lawrence, and Suffolk.

    In addition, Federal funding is available to Erie and Niagara Counties on a cost-sharing basis for snow assistance for a continuous 48-hour period during or proximate to the incident period.

    Lastly, Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures statewide.

    Deanne Criswell, Administrator, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security, named Lai Sun Yee as the Federal Coordinating Officer for Federal recovery operations in the affected areas. 

    Additional designations may be made at a later date if requested by the state and warranted by the results of further damage assessments.
