New York City has launched a new Staten Island–Brooklyn ferry connection, giving commuters and visitors a faster, more scenic way to travel between the two boroughs. The updated NYC Ferry St. George route now links St. George Terminal on Staten Island with Bay Ridge (American Veterans Memorial Pier) and Atlantic Avenue/Pier 6 at Brooklyn Bridge Park, before continuing on to Wall Street/Pier 11, Battery Park City, and Midtown West in Manhattan. The new line restores a direct water link between Staten Island and Brooklyn for the first time in decades and turns New York Harbor into a true everyday transit corridor, not just a tourist attraction.
City officials say the expanded St. George route is designed to cut travel times and give riders a reliable alternative to crowded subways, bridges, and tunnels. The ride from Staten Island to Bay Ridge takes only about 10–12 minutes, and continuing on to Brooklyn Bridge Park and Lower Manhattan offers one of the most direct connections for residents of Southern Brooklyn and Staten Island. The route operates throughout the day, making it useful not only for office workers, but also for students, seniors, and weekend travelers heading to parks, museums, and waterfront attractions.
The standard NYC Ferry fare is $4.50 per one-way trip, with a 10-trip pass available for $29.00 through the NYC Ferry app. To keep the service accessible, the city also offers a discounted $1.45 fare for seniors, people with disabilities, low-income New Yorkers enrolled in the Fair Fares NYC program, and eligible NYC high school students. This combination of a new fast route and reduced fares for vulnerable riders makes the Staten Island–Brooklyn ferry not only a beautiful way to see the harbor, but also a practical and affordable option for everyday New Yorkers.
