Seven local and citywide contacts for Bronx residents seeking independent-living support, accessible transportation, employment help, developmental-disability services and family guidance. This is a selected referral guide; each program has its own scope, eligibility and intake process.
Choose your next step: BILS offers local independent-living support. Access-A-Ride and accessible taxis are separate transportation services. ACCES-VR focuses on employment, OPWDD on developmental-disability services, and INCLUDEnyc on children, young people and families.
Disability and accessibility resources
1. Bronx Independent Living Services (BILS)
2330 Hoffman Street, C-1A, Bronx, NY 10458
718-515-2800
Independent-living information, disability advocacy and programs that include employment, youth services, benefits guidance and Deaf services. The operator’s current website lists this Hoffman Street address; some directories still show an earlier Third Avenue location. Confirm your appointment, entrance and program location directly. BILS lists English, Spanish and ASL support, with other languages through translation services.
2. Access-A-Ride — paratransit information and eligibility
MTA service across the five boroughs, including the Bronx
877-337-2017
For people whose disability prevents them from using buses or subways for some or all trips. Eligibility is assessed; age alone does not qualify someone. Ask about applying and arranging an assessment. From other area codes, use 718-393-4999; callers may use their preferred relay service or 711. This is a shared MTA contact, not a Bronx office. Confirm current fares and trip-booking rules with MTA.
3. Accessible Taxi E-hail
Citywide accessible taxi booking route
646-599-9999
Call to request a wheelchair-accessible taxi. TLC states that the former MTM Accessible Dispatch service ended February 28, 2026 and accessible dispatch moved to the e-hail system. Ask the provider about availability, fares and your pickup needs. This taxi service is separate from Access-A-Ride.
4. ACCES-VR — employment and vocational rehabilitation
Statewide information line — request the Bronx district contact and current appointment location
800-222-5627
Employment-related support for people with disabilities, including education, training, job preparation and career development. The application process generally begins at age 14 or older and includes an eligibility review. Ask which services, documents and work-related requirements apply to you. This is the statewide information number, not a direct Bronx office line.
5. OPWDD Front Door
Statewide intake information — ask for the office serving Bronx County
866-946-9733
The OPWDD Infoline can connect you with your local Front Door office. Staff explain eligibility for developmental-disability services and help identify support options and planning steps. An inquiry does not establish eligibility or guarantee an immediate service placement.
6. INCLUDEnyc Help Line — children, young people and families
Citywide phone support for Bronx families and professionals
212-677-4660
Information about special education, disability services, family advocacy and transition to adulthood. Published help-line hours are Monday–Thursday, 9 a.m.–3 p.m. Spanish calls: 212-677-4668. Text English: 646-693-3175; Spanish: 646-693-3157. The organization provides information and individual assistance, not legal advice or representation. You do not need a disability diagnosis to call.
7. Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities (MOPD)
Citywide disability information and city-service contact route
311
Ask NYC311 for MOPD or disability-related city-service information. From outside NYC, the shared city number is 212-639-9675. ASL users who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing can use the MOPD video phone, 646-396-5830. These are citywide contacts, not a Bronx walk-in center.
Before you contact a program
Explain the support or accommodation you need and ask about eligibility, application documents, language assistance and accessible communication. Confirm the current office or appointment location before traveling. For transportation, ask about booking, fares, pickup arrangements and assistance requirements. A disability diagnosis does not automatically establish eligibility for every service.
Addresses and contact roles were checked against the linked official government and operator sources. Telephone numbers have not been tested by calling. This guide does not determine eligibility or provide individualized medical, legal or benefits advice.
