Chancellor Aviles-Ramos Addresses Offensive Communication in NYC Public Schools

On May 1, 2025, New York City Public Schools Chancellor Aviles-Ramos issued a statement addressing the unauthorized distribution of politically one-sided materials offensive to the Jewish community within the school system’s communications. Expressing deep disappointment, the Chancellor apologized profusely for the incident, noting that it occurred despite efforts to streamline communication protocols in the large educational system. To prevent future occurrences, Aviles-Ramos announced that all system-wide communications will require direct approval from their office until the team’s capacity is strengthened to ensure political neutrality and alignment with the school system’s core values, reflecting a commitment to curating materials that are inclusive and unbiased.
