NEW YORK CITY. NYC activated the City’s Heat Emergency Plan ahead of unseasonably hot conditions and a National Weather Service heat advisory. The plan coordinates multiple agencies to open cooling centers, expand outreach to high-risk residents, and push heat-safety information citywide.
What NYC says it is doing
- Cooling centers: open across all five boroughs, with locations available through 311 and the city’s Cool Options Finder.
- Outreach: increased assistance for seniors, people with chronic conditions, and people experiencing homelessness.
- Coordination: utility and health monitoring coordination and real-time situational awareness.
