NEW YORK STATE. Governor Kathy Hochul announced a new round of New York Power Authority (NYPA) economic development awards that the state says will spur more than $104 million in private capital investment and help support 287 jobs across Western New York and the North Country.
What the awards include
- Low-cost hydropower allocations through the Western New York Hydropower program.
- More than $10 million in funding awards under NYPA’s Western New York and Northern New York Power Proceeds programs.
Local impact examples cited by the state
- Cold storage + logistics: a West Seneca warehouse project described as nearly $28 million and tied to job creation.
- Manufacturing expansion: a Cheektowaga facility plan described as more than $22 million with new positions.
- Nonprofit + food access: a hydroponic farm renovation project in East Buffalo supporting workforce training and nutrition education.
Why businesses and nonprofits should care
Programs that combine low-cost power with targeted capital funding can reduce operating costs and unlock expansions that otherwise stall on energy prices and upfront financing. For nonprofits and community operators, Power Proceeds grants can fund facilities, workforce programs and food access projects that strengthen local resilience while keeping dollars circulating in-region.
