NEW YORK. New York City is expanding two major classroom initiatives aimed at math and literacy. Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Schools Chancellor Kamar Samuels announced a $17.3 million investment to expand NYC Solves and NYC Reads across more districts, grade levels and school communities.

Why it matters
The city says NYC Solves will expand to middle schools in 10 additional districts and, for the first time, to elementary schools in four districts. NYC Reads will expand to middle schools in 11 additional districts and, for the first time, to high schools in four districts.
For families, the practical question is whether a child’s school or district will receive new curriculum, teacher support or MTSS-related academic intervention. The city listed participating districts across Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens and District 75.
What to watch next
The policy goal is consistency: students should not lose access to strong math and literacy instruction because they move between schools or neighborhoods. BigNY readers should check with their school community and NYC Public Schools updates for rollout details.
