COUNCILMAN ARI KAGAN AND CONGRESSWOMAN NICOLE MALLIOTAKIS CALL ON NYC TO WITHDRAW THE APPEAL OF A NYS SLPREME COURT RULING THAT STRUCK DOWN LEGISLATION GRANTING NON CITIZENS THE RIGHT TO VOTE
Brooklyn, NY. Councilman Ari Kagan and Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis will host a press conference Wednesday. August, 2023, at 10:00 AM to demand the City of New York withdraw their appeal of a New York State Supreme Court ruling that struck down Councilman Justin Brannan and Mayor Adams’ attempt to grant more than 800,000 noncitizens with voting rights.
Since the ruling, more than 100,000 migrants have arrived in New York City with thousands more expected, potentially leading to more than 1 million noncitizens being granted voting rights.
The legislation passed by the city council in 2021 grants non-citizens with either permanent legal status or work authorization to vote in municipal lections including for New York City Mayor and City Council.
Councilman Justin Brannan proudly co-sponsored and voted for this law.
