New York State Senator Steve Chan spoke at the Welcome Care community event at Health Essential Association on 86th Street in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn, after participating earlier in the day in a walk on the Coney Island Boardwalk in support of autism awareness.
Chan said the walk was organized to recognize, respect and support people with autism. He thanked the organizers, including Anatoli Wolson Martial Arts School, and said he was grateful to join local residents, constituents and elected officials for the event. The senator emphasized that people with autism deserve respect, acceptance and community support. He noted that autistic individuals are “just like us,” while developing on a different path and experiencing neurodivergence.
After the autism awareness walk, Senator Chan attended the Welcome Care health fair and community recognition event at Health Essential Association on 86th Street. He thanked Welcome Care, Health Essential Association, ElderServe Health, Ari Kagan, Assemblyman Alec Brook-Krasny and other sponsors and community partners for bringing the neighborhood together.
At the event, community members and home care workers were recognized for their service, dedication and contributions to Brooklyn families. Awards and certificates were presented to people who work for and support the community.
Senator Chan said the event was an example of how elected officials, health care organizations and community leaders can work together to bring resources directly to local residents.
“We have to continue to serve our community. We have to bring resources in, and that’s what I’m here to do,” Chan said.
He thanked the community for its support and trust, saying he would continue to represent local residents in Albany and voice their concerns.
“I will continue to serve and voice our concerns,” Chan said.
